Beauty Panel: Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Hair Care Lines

As the seasons begin to change and the temperatures are finally rising, it becomes especially important that our beauty routines adapt. While most of us spent the cold winter months on overdrive when it comes to beauty products, we’re back to our regularly scheduled hair care programming and that means looking for some back-to-basics hair care products, too. We’re always hunting down the best beauty products and if we can get a stellar product that also boasts a natural M.O., count us in, which is why we’re so stoked for the new Matrix Biolage R.A.W. hair care line.

The collection boasts three sub-lines”Nourish, Recover and Uplift”to help bring your mane back to its healthy glory, all while offering up to 95 percent natural origin ingredients, with a paraben-, sulfate-, silicone- and artificial colourant-free formula (that just also happens to be encased in 99 per cent biodegradable and 100 per cent recycle plastic bottles). Each of the shampoo-conditioner duos harness the power of natural ingredients to deliver noticeably super-healthy hair.

I have very fine hair that unfortunately breaks really easily (and it becomes very visibly obvious when I have them), so I’m constantly on the hunt for a shampoo and conditioner that will nourish and protect my strands without weighing it down. I have to admit I was skeptical when I tried the Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Nourish shampoo and conditioner because, to me, the ingredients (honey, coconut oil and clay) sounded like they were going to either make my hair feel greasy (and sticky, because, honey) or dehydrate my strands (clay is known for its purifying powers), but they did neither.

After one wash, I was already hooked, though this was a lesson in employing some less-is-more tactics. While my instinct is to always go overboard on the shampoo (especially after one of my hot yoga classes when my hair is gross and sweaty), the formula is very light so you don’t need a lot to get your hair squeaky clean. But, it was the conditioner that sealed the deal (and my split ends), making my hair look and feel healthy, all while using up to 95 per cent naturally derived ingredients.

I am the worst person alive who blowdries and heat-treats her (dyed blonde) hair every day, so I was HERE for Matrix Biolage R.A.W. Nourish line. The good news: it’s up to 95 per cent natural origin and contains no silicones, sulfates, parabens or artificial colourants. The better news: I could actually tell a difference when I used it.

That being said, I did have to learn to use less. Using freakish amounts of this particular conditioner will make your hair impossible to deal with (shout-out to the natural ingredients), so trust me when I suggest you only a quarter/loonie-sized amount. Then, you hair will feel stronger and stand up to heat-treating way more, which it does/has been.

As opposed to, like, feeling like that X-Man who can turn into steel.

I was excited to use Matrix’s Nourish Shampoo and Conditioner because I noticed my once shiny and healthy hair has started to become dry and dull because of going blonde, then back to dark and the daily heat styling I put my tresses through every day. With hero ingredients like quinoa husk and honey in the shampoo and coconut oil and kaolin clay in the conditioner, meant to feed dry hair, I was interested to see if it would bring my hair back to its luscious roots. After the first wash I noticed by hair was definitely softer right away. It held on to the water (which is a sign of healthy hair) when blow drying. Both signs I was on my way to more nourished hair. As the week went on the shine became more and more evident with every wash. The best part is the shampoo didn’t strip out my colour. With safe ingredients that from up to 95 per cent natural origin I felt good about what I was putting on my scalp, and happy to know my colour would continue to be vibrant.

On most weeks, I get anywhere between one to three blowouts for photo shoots, events and TV appearances. Because hot tools can be hard on my hair, I like to keep things simple, and natural, on the days when my hair gets a break. Finding a “clean” shampoo that still makes your hair look and feel as good as you want it to isn’t always as easy as it should be, so I was immediately intrigued by the new Biolage R.A.W. products that promise the hair you’ve always dreamed of, while being good for you and the environment. I picked Nourish (for dry hair) and I love that the shampoo and conditioner is made without the use of silicones, sulfates or parabens, and still smell AMAZING. After the first wash my hair felt clean, soft, hydrated and happy and I had full confidence leaving my house with my natural waves flowing.

When I was asked to test out Matrix Biolage‘s latest innovative haircare line, I was eager to see what they had in store for me! As soon as I opened the package it immediately reminded me of juice cleanse bottles that I recently took part of, so that caught my attention right away! I learned that Matrix Biolage came out with the R.A.W. (Real Authentic Wholesome) shampoo and conditioner line, aiming to fix three hair problems we all tend to come across:

Nourish, for dry, dull hair (which I used), Recover, for Stressed, sensitized hair and Uplift, for flat, fine hair.

Once I tested it out I was surprised how soft, shiny and healthy it turned out. I mean a shampoo and conditioner that has up to 95% natural origin, no artificial colorants, no parabens, no sulfates, no silicones and much more, who wouldn’t want to switch it up if it works better on their hair?! I know I was hooked from the very first try!

The first thing I noticed about the new Matrix Biolage R.A.W. line is the biodegradable packaging. Different from anything I’ve seen on shelves, it’s immediately obvious that the shampoo and conditioner is focusing on healthy ingredients. They look like cold-pressed juice bottles! And it works wonders. My hair hasn’t felt this soft in so long and I attribute that to the lack of artificial colorants, parabens, sulfates and silicones.
