How many times have you looked in the mirror—or your laptop screen—in the past two years and not loved what you see. Do you look tired? Could your skin texture be better? Have you noticed volume loss in your lower face? A downward pull along your jawline?

Toronto dermatologist Dr. Lisa Kellett says these are typically the issues people fixate on the most and visit her clinic DLK on Avenue looking for help with. “I would say tiredness is definitely the number one concern people have today with their appearance,” reports Dr. Kellett. “Women and men are looking for treatment options to give a naturally, rejuvenated and appearance. A celebrity like Jennifer Lopez is a great example of what people are looking to emulate. She is turning 53 and looks beautiful, healthy and incredible.”

The year 2022 marks the 25th anniversary of Restylane, the original stabilized hyaluronic acid dermal filler, an invention that unquestionably changed the beauty game. It made a refreshed skin appearance totally achievable and accessible. In the years since its introduction and subsequent booming popularity, Dr. Kellett says the results people want have also changed over time. “The look today for lips and cheeks is not so overly plumped. When I consult with patients looking for treatments, the most important thing I stress is that any work you’re had done should be totally unnoticeable. The goal is to look like you, but with a few undetectable enhancements.”

In the 20 to 30 years old age demographic, Dr. Kellett says subtle lip enhancement is the number one request. For the next generations, volume enhancement is the most popular treatment which typically consists of expertly placed injectables to give face a plump, youthful effect and shape and lift softening jawlines. Results for lip enhancement and volumizing injectable treatments can last anywhere from eight to twelve months.

For issues with skin texture and over all appearance, there’s also an injectable for that in the form of Restalyne Skin Boosters. Administered via micro-injections in the skin, the hyaluronic acid naturally integrates into the skin to improve hydration, elasticity, and surface smoothness. It’s a particularly effective treatment in improving the appearance of acne scarring and pitting. For optimal results, Dr. Kellett recommends booster treatments be done in a series of three every two to four weeks to start, then maintained every four to six months.

If you are looking to dip into the world of injectables, and wonder where to begin, Dr. Kellett says it all starts with a consult with a qualified professional to determine what’s best for you. “When a patient comes to see me, I ask what the number one concern is and work towards fixing that first. If there are multiple concerns, we can work towards solutions for those, but you will be happiest if we address the thing that bothers you most.”
