Dating websites are nothing new and it’s become part of the societal norm to head online to find your perfect match. But there’s is one dating website that has being doing pretty well over in the UK, and seems to be gaining a bit of attention over on this side of the pond.
TheUglyBugBall.com is a dating website for those that are less fortunate in the aesthetics area. Bizarre, right?
“If you are one of the millions of people [who] don’t always like what they see in the mirror, then this is the place for you!” says the website.
The Ugly Bug Ball has hit it big in the UK, and also offers profiles for people in Australia, Ireland, Canada and the US.
Some might say that this is taking the online dating niche to a whole new, unnecessary level (ahem, people like me that is). And the whole premise of the website is a bit sad, isn’t it? People who feel they can’t measure up to the profiles on dating sites like Match.com or EHarmoney.com, so they find a website that fits their criteria, a dating site that provides services to those who feel the exact same way. I feel like this website should also be providing free self-esteem seminars with their memberships.
But who am I to judge? In fact The Ugly Bug Ball’s success has reached new heights this week with their first engaged couple. That’s right, Tom Clifford and Janine Walker have recently announced their plans of marriage, and it’s all thanks to this unconventional dating site.
After signing up, Tom found Janine and sent her the following message:
“Dear Janine, Just seen your beautiful face on The Ugly Bug Ball and would love to meet up. You live near me, so this shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve got a face that makes children cry but, as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder – and I think you’ll love me too.”
It seems the above message worked to his advantage, because after just four dates, Janine agreed to marry him!
So maybe this new age of online dating isn’t so bad after all.
But don’t you ever miss the days of chivalry, courtship, and when a man would pick you up at your door with flowers in hand instead of just a measly text message letting you know he’s outside? But then again, perhaps this old-school way of finding love exists only in old movies and my imagination.
