Lately it seems the feminine curves are the silhouette to strive for (think Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks). The ladies of the 50’s and 60’s and their bodacious bods are serving as inspiration for designers and runways all over the globe.
On September 15th and for the first time in 46 years a plus size fashion show was unveiled during New York Fashion Week. From model Toccara Jones”a season three contestant on America`s Next Top Model”to the likes of Lizzie Miller (the model who so famously bared her pudgy tummy in the pages of Glamour) the models showed off their fresh faces and full feminine figures. The line once drawn ruling out plus-size models on a high fashion runway was broken and a vivacious woman strutted her stuff.
Produced by OneStopPlus.com an online boutique catering to a fuller figured woman showcased the amazing creations from designer Galina Monaco on the catwalk. The show coined the theme ˜Belle Epoque’ meaning beautiful era which perfectly described the feeling around the runway. We saw a glimmer of plus-size acceptance when Whitney Thompson won cycle 10 of America`s Next Top Model being the first full figured model to win and this season the vibe seems to be steering in the same direction.
In the audience supporting the cause were the beautiful curvaceous actresses Hairspray`s Nikki Blonsky, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe, and OneStopPlus.com brand ambassador Emme. Not only do these ladies know how to embrace their curves and hips are sexy they boast confidence and beauty.
The show was closed on a high note with a standing ovation and the idea that plus-size models have finally broken through the walls of high fashion.
