Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen got playful inside the April issue of Vogue (which has Rihanna on the cover) and they opened up about their past acting careers, being designers, and what it’s like to be so close to each other.
As twins, these sisters have experienced things together that most of us will never understand.
“Some of our memories are shared,” said Mary-Kate. “We don’t know what actually happened to whom. One of us was stung by a bee, but we can’t remember who, because we both felt it.”
Bizarre, right?
And these are two 24-year-olds who know all about working hard. They currently serve has head designers at three of their own fashion brands–The Row, Elizabeth & James and Olsenboye–and have made $1 billion in retail sales through their company, Dualstar (which they started when they wer 6!). They aren’t your average celebrity designers either, the Olsen twins are involved through the entire process.
So, how did these two get so involved in the fashion industry? Well, they learned the ropes from their movie and television days.
“It was so fun because it was all about clothing and hairstyles. We had to change twelve times every episode. There would be five or six racks of clothes there, and they cut them down to fit us”even Chanel,” said Mary-Kate.
“We were involved 100 percent in the fittings,” Ashley continued. “And at that age when you become so crazy about how you look sometimes there were three or four fittings. All our memories are of shooting.”
Their hard work is finally starting to pay off (not that they aren’t two of the richest 24-year-olds in the entire world). Ashley and Mary-Kate have received their first CDFA nomination and are up against fashion powerhouses like Joseph Altuzarra and Pabal Gaurang in the Swarovski award for Womenswear category.
