Ever wish you could slip on Cinderella’s glass slipper and immerse yourself in a fairytale of ball gowns, fairy godmothers and Prince Charming? Well, Christian Louboutin wants to help you make your own fairytales come true with his Cinderella Princess Pumps.
The shoe was created in partnership with Disney to celebrate the Blu-ray release of Cinderella Diamond Edition. Louboutin decided to step away from the traditional glass heel and opted for lace and Swarovski crystals instead.
You imagine it being completely transparent, [made] out of glass, Louboutin said. [But] full and classical transparency made into a shoe makes a really ugly foot.
The Cinderella pump was unveiled in Paris, surrounded by stills and sketches from the original movie.
Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes, Louboutin said. Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale.
A 10-minute film about the shoes puts Louboutin in the middle of Cinderella’s fairytale. He stars as the shoemaker who has little time to make Cinderella’s shoes. He finds inspiration from a modern-day princess who works hard but wishes for a better life. Called The Magic of the Glass Slipper: A Cinderella Story, the short film will be included as a bonus feature on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the classic film.
The movie is about how that shoe got invented by the person who is known as the Red Sole Man. Which is me, he said.
Louboutin has only created 20 of the Cinderella shoes, but will be giving a pair away to a lucky winner. Contest plans will be announced on August 17.
