And I mean, finally.
After being presented with the Video Vanguard lifetime achievement award at the VMAs last night (August 30), Kanye West delivered a speech that called out the music industry, MTV (for airing and re-airing his infamous Taylor Swift stage-rush), and award shows in general.
“I don’t understand how they get five people who work their entire life [to] sell records, sell concert tickets, to come and stand on the red carpet and for the first time in their life be judged on a chopping block and have the opportunity to be considered a loser.”
“And yes, as you probably could have guessed in this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president,” he concluded.
Which was amazing.
Not just because Kanye West would make a remarkable president (he would get things DONE, you guys), but because instead of bowing down to record execs or a station or anybody else, he went up there looking comfortable and just said what he thought. Which will be even better if/when he’s president. (Even though he would probably need a speech writer — a position I am happy to volunteer for.)
Although for the record, would be more than happy if he threw his hat into the race now. With Donald Trump’s numbers climbing, we need a candidate who will eclipse Trump’s high profile, while offering harsh truths that actually make sense.
KANYE 2020, YOU GUYS.
