Emmy Nominations Announced

The Emmy Nominations were announced today, and though many old favourites returned, there’s no denying one new show is miles in front of the pack.

Fox’s Glee has been nominated for an impressive 19 Emmys, coming in second with most overall noms only behind HBO’s The Pacific. Another newcomer, Modern Family, has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy alongside The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Nurse Jackie & 30 Rock.

In other comedy-related news, Coco fans will be rejoicing. The short-lived Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien has been nominated for Outstanding Variety and Musical Program. Current host Jay Leno was snubbed, proving that it’s not just the fans that enjoy a Bugatti dressed as mouse.

Fan favourite Betty White has been nominated for her spin hosting Saturday Night Live, in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.

On a more dramatic note, some tried-and-true Emmy favourites once again were nominated. Dexter, Breaking Bad, Lost, True Blood & The Good Wife are all contending alongside Mad Men. The hit show is arguably the winner’s pick among viewers, with 2.3 million tuning in to watch the season 3 finale. But will it take home the hardware to prove it?

Flying the flag for Canada at the ceremony are Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara and Toronto’s Will Arnett, nominated for his guest appearance in 30 Rock.

Visit emmys.tv/nominations to see the full list of contenders, and tune in August 21st to catch all the action live from the Nokia Theatre, LA.
