Why Laughter is the Best Medicine

It is no wonder that you feel just a little bit lighter after a good tear-inducing, cheek-hurting uncontrollable laugh. Laughter is arguably one of the best things you can do for your mind and soul- not to mention giving your abs a good workout! It takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile, so avoid those unwanted frown lines and giggle, laugh, and even snort whenever possible!

It is easy to go a day, two days, or even a week without having a good ol’ laugh. With work stress, relationship drama, and those pesky bills piling up, sometimes you may think you don’t have much to laugh about. Give yourself a chance and watch a movie or show that you know will always make you laugh. Call that friend or family member that can always get a giggle out of even the toughest exteriors.

 Laughter is a powerful anecdote to stress and conflict in your life. While it is not a permanent solution, it distracts the mind and releases the happy-hormone, endorphins. This little wonder drug will help your whole body feel more at ease and back in balance. Getting the giggles now and then relieves built up anger and stress you might be carrying around and helps you let go of some of that unwanted mental clutter.

Believe it or not, laughter has had proven health benefits that signifigantly help your body. Laughing boots your immunity, can decrease minor pain, and even prevents heart disease! More commonly, laughing relaxes your muscles and which allows for better blood circulation through your body. Just like it releases endorphins, it also lowers the stress hormone that can weigh down on your body over time. 

Above all, more laughter in your life will make you a more likeable person. Laughing regularly with your partner will strengthen your relationship and could result in some funny inside jokes between the two of you. Take the time to make each other laugh and not only will you feel better about yourself, but you will feel more connected and in love! The same goes for your friends- a happy, smiling, laughing friend is more attractive than a quiet, reserved friend who only manages to squeak out a chuckle every now and again. Laugh with your girlfriends about the hilarious scene you witnessed while at lunch last month, or giggle together over your go-to romantic comedy.

Laughter shows that you are a person that enjoys life, avoids conflict, likes to feel good and relish in the company of positive people. Let yourself be drawn to the laughter in your life and you in turn will laugh more and fee like a better you!
