Riccardo Tisci “Confirmed” to Replace John Galliano

With one of the biggest fashion houses in the business in style limbo, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the rumour mill started churning out candidates to replace John Galliano at Christian Dior.

The favourite thus far has been Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. But before the first round bloodbath could even begin, Tisci knocked himself out of the running.

I felt this was a strong, positive season. And I’m happy at Givenchy, he said.

Or is he?

New York Times fashion editor Derek Blasberg confirmed Tisci will replace Galliano via tweet yesterday:

I was just told backstage at the @KatyPerry concert (of all places!) that Riccardo Tisci is CONFIRMED at Dior. I leave #PFW for a second¦

After Blasberg dropped the C-bomb, the news spread like wildfire through countless fashion insiders on Twitter.

Despite the we mean business capital CONFIRMED in just about all of the retweets, the fact is Tisci is anything but. Derek Blasberg knows his stuff, but no one has actually stepped up to confirm Tisci in any official capacity yet. Womp waaahmp.

He’s been seen as the shoe-in for a reason. Tisci certainly has a lot of industry support: Japanese Vogue editor Anna Dello Russo publicly joined Team Tisci this week.

I think Riccardo deserves the [Dior] position, Dello Russo told style.com. He’s becoming a very mature artist. For me, Givenchy was the best show of the season so far.

And so we wait.
