Weird Celebrity Baby Names

Celebrity pregnancies seem to cause quite a fuss these days. There are the rumors: Is she pregnant? Is she lying even though she says she's not? Who is the father?! There are the fashion statements: Showing off the belly– do or don't? What designer is swaddling whose belly? And of course, the most important factor to celebrity pregnancies: baby names.

As soon as news breaks that a starlet has popped, people continue to ask one thing: What's the baby's name? And whether it's announced along with the birth such as Spice Girls alum, Victoria Beckham, and her soccer star husband, David, when they announced Harper Seven, or still unknown months later a la Natalie Portman (although her son's rumored name is Alef), one thing still seems to remain constant: the unusual names they choose.

Some of these names (like Harper Seven) are offered up with a swift explanation. Seven gets her middle name from her father's jersey number, and the Beckham's new addition was born on the seventh month, in the seventh hour. Other examples of weird baby names explained: Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette's, Coco is named from the first two initials in her mother's names. Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's middle daughter, Scout, is named for the main character in Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," and Nicolas Cage's son, Kal-el was given Superman's birth name.

However, many celebrity couples choose to leave everyone in the dark as to why they chose the name. Toni Braxton's two sons, Denim and Diezel, Alicia Keys's son Egypt, and Erykah Badu's daughter, Puma, weren't paired with any explanations behind their bizarre names.

But there is one celebrity who puts many of these strange celebrity baby names to shame, choosing perhaps the most unusual list of names known in Hollywood. Paula Yates, former British television presenter, along with her two former husbands, have come up with some truly unique names for their children. Yates's four daughters include : Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom, Little Pixie, and Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.

Do celebrities choose these names as a publicity stunt? Do they want their children to stand out in a world where they will be raised in the spotlight? Is it more acceptable for celebrities to choose odd baby names? Or do they choose them simply because they like them? While no one can be sure on the reason behind this rising trend, it is safe to say that the popularity behind celebrities choosing unusual names doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.
