“The Great Gatsby” may not be hitting theatres until the summer, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t already obsessed with the costumes.
And we have a reason to be: Miucci Prada has unveiled four sketches ahead of the movie, and they look amazing (because they are). Prada actually joined forces with costume designer Catherine Martin to create — according to Vogue UK — over 40 looks for the picture, inspired by Prada and Miu Miu.
Says Martin: “Baz [Luhrman, “Gatsby” director] and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past. This connection is central to our relationship with Miuccia Prada on ‘The Great Gatsby,’ and has connected our vision with hers.”
“In the same way Nick Carraway reflects on a world that he is within and without, we have tried to create an environment that the audience will be subconsciously familiar with, yet separated from.”
Needless to say, the costumes will be the greatest (and we will probably be embracing ’20s-inspired fashions over the next year — thank goodness). You can check out the sketches over at Vogue.uk, and you can get a glimpse into “Gatsby” by watching the trailer over and over like some of us (hi) already have.
