We’ve been spritzing Merit’s New Wave L’Extrait de Parfum for its blend of sensual warmth, radiant flowers and unexpected spice. The concentrated fragrance reimagines florals with an enveloping finish that feels equal parts polished and daring. And we couldn’t be happier.
Bright, green and subtly peppery, the eau opens with Madagascar pink pepper and aromatic angelica seed for an energetic start. A blend of luminous orange blossom and creamy ylang-ylang blooms with a honeyed floral accord softens the composition with a golden, nectar-like warmth. Rich, balsamic benzoin and resinous, ambery labdanum add depth, while earthy patchouli, sensual musk, smooth vanilla, warm tonka bean and smoky olibanum and oakwood create a sophisticated, intimate finish. Created by master perfumers Dominique Ropion and Meabh McCurtin, the perfume’s overall effect is magnetic, powerful and bold.
Captured in a molten, pebble-like glass flacon inspired by surrealist art, it is sculptural and features an ergonomic thumb-dent designed for easy spritzing. A nod to the Merit’s first scent, Retrospect, the weighty bottle mirrors its predecessor’s signature look, anchoring a cohesive new era of fragrance for the brand.
Merit New Wave L’Extrait de Parfum $125 for 30ml, available at Sephora.
