Singer Melissa Etheridge has filed for divorce from her Domestic Partnership with actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, citing irreconcilable differences. Wanting to officially end the 9-year relationship, Etheridge, 49, has asked the courts not to provide the 35-year-old L-Word actress any financial support. Harsh.
The couple ended their relationship earlier this year and Etheridge announced their split on Oprah back in April, saying that Michaels is a “wonderful mother” and that the two of them will continue to have a relationship, because their two children, twins Johnnie Rose and Miller, 3, will always “come first.”
However, now, 3 months later, Etheridge is asking for full custody. What makes this even more interesting is while Etheridge has been on her “Fearless Love” tour, Michaels has put her acting career on the back burner to raise their children in Indiana.
After receiving the news, Michaels took to her blog to express her feelings. “SMACK!!!!!!!!!!!! FILE FOR DIVORCE!!!!!! Even though we both promised, agreed, handshook, pinkyswore, no filing until after tour in the fall,” the actress wrote. She also revealed that she learned of the divorce through the “headlines.” Again, harsh.
There seems to be a huge difference in Etheridge’s words on Oprah back in April and her actions now. Seems the singer is out for blood, and her target is her ex-wife Michaels. Well, good luck Tammy… I think you’re going to need it…
