No more fist pumps, hair poofs or Ron-Ron juice. The days of smushing, fights and t-shirt time at the shore house will soon be coming to an end. MTV has decided to cancel Jersey Shore after its sixth season.
We’ve always said we’d do the show for as long as it made sense, said Chris Linn, Executive VP of Programming at MTV. We noticed what was going on in their lives, with Nicole (Snooki) having her baby, the relationships, etc. it felt like the right time to bring it to a close and end on a high note.
The Jersey Shore cast has definitely seen some changes in recent months. Nicole ˜Snooki’ Polizzi just gave birth to a baby boy and is engaged to marry her longtime beau Jionni LaValle. Mike ˜The Situation’ Sorrentino was in rehab earlier this year for an addiction to prescription pills. Paul ˜DJ Pauly D’ DelVecchio’s music career has taken off after touring with Britney Spears and major gigs in Las Vegas. The shore house is growing up!
Linn says the cast only recently learned about the end of the show and found the news to be emotional.
It’s emotional. Mainly because this has been such an amazing ride for everyone involved. They were completely plucked out of anonymity and this has changed their lives in ways I don’t think any of us anticipated, he said. It’s been a fast and exciting run, so I think there are a lot of emotions that come into play. I think it’s a bit bittersweet for all of us.
Not to fret Jersey Shore fans. There will still be plenty of the cast on MTV. Spin-off show Snooki & JWOWW has been renewed for a second season. However, there is still no word on DJ Pauly D’s spin-off and if that will be getting a second season (my guess is if it hasn’t already been confirmed, it might not be happening). There are also rumours of a Snooki wedding special.
Season 6 of Jersey Shore premieres on MTV on October 4 at 10 pm. The final season is sure to be full of hook-ups, fights and, according to Linn, lots of tension between Snooki and The Situation.
