Since Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance is still on everyone’s minds (not to mention M.I.A.’s attention-stealing gesture), it’s the perfect time for Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci to step up and talk about what it was like to dress the mega-star once again.
“Following my collaboration with Madonna on her last tour three years ago, it is a great honour for me to be a part of yet another historical and iconic moment,” he said today. “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna. I am so happy that, after being busy in other scenes, she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us music, but also to make such a statement of performance and fashion.”
And that she did. With her outfits inspired by Tisci’s archive Givenchy looks, she made all wardrobe changes onstage – and Madonna’s wardobe included a cold cape, a black mini dress and a studded belt. (Very goddess – which, according to Madonna’s camp, is arguably also very fitting.)
However, you can’t help but wonder how Madonna feels today after her headlines were taken by a middle finger-waving M.I.A. Stirring up controversy like it’s 2009, the rapper-slash-singer arguably stole the limelight from Madonna and Minaj by flipping off a packed stadium and the millions of people watching at home.
Just in time for the release of her new song, “Bad Girls” as well.
