Were you like me in that literally up until this minute, you thought it was merely a privilege to be invited to fashion shows? And that the whole point was just to BE there? (No? I’m just incredibly naive?)
Well, according to Coco Perez, retailer and stylist Cameron Silver, fashion houses “fly [celebrities] out and put them up and offer a nice Paris or Milan holiday, unless they’re contractually obliged to attend. Others pay them an appearance fee.”
Well la dee da!
Evidently, Rihanna (allegedly) got paid $97,500 to see Karl Lagerfeld’s show in 2010, while Jessica Chastain earned $200,000 to sit and watch Armani Prive’s. Beyonce’s been given $100,000, while Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively earn about $50,000 for fashion show appearances.
However, Kirsten Dunst, Audrey Tautou, and Cate Blanchett all go to Chanel based on their love of the brand alone, while Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie don’t “get front row deals.” Allison Williams also goes for the publicity, and celebrity representatives for Dior also go for loyalty’s sake.
