America’s Next Top Model goes High Fashion

After 15 cycles, are you still watching America’s Next Top Model?  Well if so, we’ve got good news: this next season’s set to be their biggest and most exciting yet.

Premiering tonight (at 8pm on the A Channel in Canada), the season’s set to see guest appearances by the likes of Vogue‘s Andre Leon Talley, Zac Posen, Roberto Cavalli, Diane Von Furstenberg and photographers Matthew Rolston and photographer Patrick Demarchelier (who – if you recall – had several name drops in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada). But why the A-list roster?

Executive producer Ken Mok said recently: “We’ve always been a very mainstream show . . . a hidden secret or guilty secret of the fashion world.  No one confesses out loud to watching it.  But the second we went out and told the world that Italian Vogue would be the prize . . . that completely opened doors, carte blanche, to any and everybody that we wanted.”

Wait, what? A six to eight page spread in Italian Vogue is the prize?  Does anyone remember when it was the cover of Seventeen magazine (or am I just showing my age)? To add insult to injury, Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani will be acting as a guest judge, thus adding further credibility to the season that will put all others (of any show) to shame (forever).

Tyra Banks concluded: “All of a sudden, it’s not America’s Next Top Model, it’s America’s Next Top Modelle, dahling.  It’s totally elevating it with the fashion industry.”

Well, not if you phrase it that way – but we see your point.
