Researchers Find The Perfect Date Look

Chris DeBurgh was onto something: be a lady in red, and you’ll catch any man’s attention.

According to research done at New York’s University of Rochester, men believe that women who wear red are “more likely to respond to their advances.” Apparently stemming from biological instincts, female primates go red in the face when fertile – thus, seeing red on a human woman subconsciously sends the same message.

“In nature, red is a sexual colour,” fashion psychologist Kate Nightingale told The Daily Mail. “If you are wearing red, it says to your date you are willing to be considered in that way.”

On top of that, the same study showed that men prefer long, loose waves – in brunette shades – and no bangs.

“A loose wave shows you can relax in his company,” Nightingale continued. “Above all, hair should look glossy and healthy – it’s a key indicator of fertility.”

According to The Mail, another study also claimed that men prefer women to show only 40% of their skin while out on a date, so short skirts should be balanced with long sleeves, and vice versa. Meanwhile, researchers at the University of Hertfordshare asked 300 people to make a snap judgement on women wearing skirts versus, pants and women in skirts were seen as “more successful and confidant.”

Red and pink lipsticks were other must-dos – again, signalling “fertility.”

And that’s all well and good, but remember – to each their own. While Kate Nightingale says to put the kibosh on overly trendy pieces like leggings or prints (seen as too “high maintenance”), you’ve still got to stick to what you’re comfortable with, or the person you meet won’t be getting to know “the real you.” But if that’s not what you’re worried about, stick to the golden rule: when in doubt, listen to that Chris DeBurgh song.
