Forty-seven year old fashion designer, L'Wren Scott has been found dead in her Manhattan apartment Monday morning after hanging herself. Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, who she has been romantically linked to since 2001 is “completely shocked and devastated” by the news. They were still together at the time, though Jagger was on tour in Australia.
L'Wren Scott, who was originally named Luann Bambrough and raised in Utah by Mormon parents, has had a successful career in the fashion industry. She started off as a stylist and has gained notoriety among celebrities like Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna and Julia Roberts. She captured the eye of celebrity photographer Bruce Weber and pursued a career in modelling, later working for Chanel. Scott has also styled costumes for famous film sets such as Ocean's Thirteen and Eyes Wide Shut. Her first designer collection, Little Black Dress, was launched in 2006 and she has since went on to work with designers and brands such as Karl Lagerfeld and Banana Republic. Her designs are known to sculpt the womanly figure and highlight curves, enhancing sex appeal.
At 10am on Monday morning, Scott was found dead in her apartment by her assistant and though a formal medical report is yet to be released, there is no suspicion of foul play. Her official Twitter feed was updated either automatically or by a member of her team, an hour after her body was found.
On her road to riches she learned that not everything is as it appears to be in the industry, and tragically, Scott has become an example of this herself. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar in 2011 she said, “You'll see the most perfect person and you are like, God, she's, like, perfect. And then she'll tell you everything that's not perfect. Everyone has their own special set of problems-in their own minds”.
Unfortunately, Scott may have been dealing with her “own special set of problems” that has now led to her untimely death. Nonetheless, she will forever be remembered as a daring designer, stylist to the stars and statuesque beauty standing over 6 feet tall.
