Tavi Gevinson and Sassy’s Former Editor Jane Pratt Team Up

Tavi Gevinson became a mini fashion mogul back in 2008, at the age of 11, when she began her famous blog, Style Rookie. It wasn’t long before she was being featured in the New York Times and sitting front row at the hottest runway shows.

Now Tavi has a new endeavor hitting the fashion world. She has managed to grab the attention of former Sassy editor, Jane Pratt. Sassy was a cult fashion magazine that ran from 1988 to 1994, renowned for its smart and savvy content. Earlier this year, Tavi took to her blog to express her growing desire for a magazine, like Sassy, for her generation.

“[Sassy] called out celebrities and politicians for being a**holes, educated its readers on politics without sounding biased, and focused on fashion in a way that was unconventional,” she wrote. “It was lipstick feminism for teenage girls, covering sexist issues but not discouraging having fun with makeup or caring about boys.” I, for one, was too young for Sassy while it was around, but the way that Tavi describes it, makes me wish there was such a publication on new stands today.

After repeatedly professing her love for Sassy, Tavi gained the attention of Jane Pratt, the founding editor, and not only got was she was hoping for, but gained an entirely new project for herself. Tavi took to her blog again to let her readers know about the upcoming project (which has yet to be named), and say that this will not be a recreation of the 90’s cult magazine, nor do they want it to be. This is going to be a fashion magazine for “wallflowerly teenage girls,” with substance and (I hope) without the faces of popular teen stars constantly gracing the covers.

Tavi topped off her announcement post with a The Beatle’s “Something” video. She is definitely got an interesting point of view; cannot wait to see what she and Jane Pratt dream up.
