Oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe has landed herself a new role of the Showtime Series, The Big C.
The show, a dark comedy, stars Laura Linney has Cathy, a suburban housewife who wants to take her life into her own hands after she is diagnosed cancer. Gabourey will be playing a smart-witted student. Her role was originally meant as a guest appearance but show producers have decided to extend it into a main character. The Big C also stars Oliver Pratt who plays Cathy’s husband.
The show is set to start filming in mid May and Gabourey has officially signed on for 13 episodes. The season is scheduled to premiere sometime this summer.
After her starring role in the critically acclaimed film, Precious, it was clear to the world that Gabourey isn’t just any other actress. Breaking all the Hollywood molds, this is one starlet that we should all be keeping a close eye on. After such an intense role in Precious, I’m very curious to see how Gabourey does on a small screen comedy.
I’ve clearly jumped on the Gabourey Sidibe bandwagon, but I hope this ride doesn’t end anytime soon!
