5 Prints to Wear & 5 to Throw Away

Leopard, zebra, geometric, floral, polka dot, I could go on. Everyone loves a good print. Whether you're the kind of gal who likes her prints in small doses (like a polka dotted shoe) or loves to mix and match head-to-toe, it's important to know which prints are in and which ones are out. Stock (or clean out) your closet accordingly and you'll be all set to welcome summer properly looking like you just stepped off a SS'14 runway.

Prints To Keep

1. Polka Dots

Polka dots go in and out of style every few years. This time around the dots are on a smaller scale and on classic colour schemes like black & white and red & black. Trust me. And if you don't maybe you'll trust the runways of Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Kors.

2. Brush Strokes

This print is absolutely beautiful and oh-so whimsical. Seen on Kenzo and Celine runways, this artsy trend is a lovely take on stripes and works best as watercolours. You'll look right at home painting in a park.

3. Geometric Print

Grids, triangles, concentric circles….everything you thought you left behind in geometry class is back with a vengence. A really stylish vengence. Almost everyone showed geometrics including big wigs like Diane von Furstenberg and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

4. Florals

'Florals for spring. Groundbreaking." Try to get Miranda Priestly's condescending voice out of your head and embrace the inevitable…florals ARE spring and they will be everywhere. Embrace the giant floral patterns that were seen on runways like Prabal Gurung and Christian Siriano.KE

5. Pixelated Patterns

Techphobes beware! Pixelated patterns and glitch-worthy blocking were seen on runways like Oscar de la Renta and Zero + Maria Cornejo. These looks can be quite colourful and just a bit confusing. Your eyes might hurt after looking too long.

Prints to Ditch

1. Leopard

Thanks to oversaturation (damn you Snooki!) leopard no longer counts as a print but instead as a message to the type of person you are. Think: Peggy Bundy.

2. Zebra Print

See above.

3. Landscape Prints

Finally, someone realized that having an entire horizon splayed across your midsection does the opposite of slim you down!

4. Aztec Prints

Whenever a fashion statement comes out that has the style crowd tip-toeing around politically correct wording, you know it's going to be a short-lived trend.

5. Checkered Prints

This was a trend from last season that won't be carried into this one. Checkered prints are way too heavy for spring/summer and are best left to the colder months.
