2012 has been a banner year for Zooey Deschanel, who not only starred in the Golden Globe-nominated New Girl, but had the popular Fox series picked up for another season.
Now? She’s heading to Broadway.
Tweeting and Instagramming the news last night, Zooey Deschanel confirmed that she’ll be starring in the Broadway production of Coal Miner’s Daughter.
After taking to the Grand Ole Opry stage with Loretta Lynn, Zooey Deschanel was announced in the same way Sissy Spacek once was, only this time, Zooey sang the title track along with the country legend.
“I have a friend here tonight,” began Loretta Lynn. “I don’t know if y’all remember when Sissy Spacek was with me. I brought her out here with me. She about fainted. We both fainted. She went on to do Coal Miner’s Daughter and you know from there. Well, there’s a little girl back stage that’s going to do the play of, Coal Miner’s Daughter. Zooey, where are you, honey?”
“Are you going to sing “Coal Miner’s Daughter”?” asked Lynn.
“I’m going to help you sing,” Zooey Deschanel responded. “This is a great honor for me. This is my hero.”
We don’t blame you if this made you tear up and want to hug Loretta Lynn, too. Who wants to spring for our Broadway tickets?
