Melissa McCarthy rules, and the world knows this, and that's why I love this piece of news so much: the Bridesmaids star will be launching a fashion line with Sunrise Brands, according to WWD.
The collection will include all types of clothing (from plus-size to not), and will fall under the "casual sportswear" umbrella.
"It's something I've done since grades school," McCarthy said. "I'd lay on the floor, look through Vogue, and cut out patterns. It was everything I ever wanted to do . . . I'd been looking for two, maybe three, four years for manufacturers to help us do this line, but after we met with Sunrise, we felt they were committed to changing the plus-size game."
The line will be released next F/W in specialty stores in the United States, Canada, and the UK, although that's all anybody knows so far. (Partners haven't been announced yet.) What we do know is this: McCarthy was actually a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, but left to pursue comedy. NOW SHE WINS BOTH WORLDS. (Seriously. I love her and you do too.)
"[I'm] a very detail-oriented person and I told them I'd be at every fitting and on my hands and knees checking the hems," she assured. "Now they're probably thinking, 'Why doesn't she go away?' But I can only do this if I really believe in it and want to wear it."
And honestly that should be the mantra of all celebrity designers. Would you wear it? Then make it. Man, this is a collaboration I hope we're all cheering for.
