Alright, let's get controversial, everybody: Kristen Stewart has been named the new face of Chanel, and I am absolutely willing to bet you have an opinion about it.
I mean, first of all — surprising, no? NO, actually. As reported by Hollywood Life, Stewart and Chanel mastermind Karl Lagerfeld are actually pretty cozy, so why wouldn't he enlist a buzz-worthy member of young Hollywood for the next campaign? (Right?) Second, how?
Well, news of the union broke at Chanel's Metiers D'Art Paris-Dallas show in Texas on Monday night, which made sense even then, since Stewart was seen sitting front row at the event, clad in S/S 2014 Chanel.
And while no official statement's been made, a "source" close to the actress claimed this collaboration was a long time in the making.
"Kristen is a huge fan of Mr. Lagerfeld and was honoured to be invited to such an extraordinary fashion event," they said (very professionally for just a "friend" and/or "source," as far as I'm concerned). "She loves his style and quirky sense of humour. He gets her and she loves him for that."
Okay, okay. Valid! And we're not denying that Kristen Stewart will probably rock the shit out of a Chanel campaign. But first, his "quirky" sense of humour is kind of the worst (remember when he said he didn't like Pippa Middleton's face?), and "gets her" . . . I mean, fine, cool, sure. There's just something a little "her?" (said like Jason Bateman in Arrested Development, obviously) about this whole thing. Not because she can't pull off being the face of Chanel. Not because of our feelings about Twilight. Just . . . something.
What is it, guys? What emotion am I feeling? Is it indifference? What are you feeling? Do you care? Does it even matter if we can't afford to buy Chanel in the first place? Let's talk.
