The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, has done Canadian fashion proud. Sure the fact that her and the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, arrived in Ottawa yesterday is big news, but Kate’s fashion choices are even bigger!
K-Mid, as she’s now affectionately been nicknamed, was seen boarding a plane at London’s Heathrow Airport wearing a navy blazer with a nipped-in waist from the Toronto label, Smythe. She was supporting a Canadian fashion brand even before she landed!
The navy blue one-button blazer retails for about $600 in stores like Holt Renfrew, Niemen Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
According to Barbara Atkin, vice-president of fashion direction at Holt Renfrew, said the phones were ringing off the hook all day at the luxury retailer. The jacket is reportedly already sold out south of the border as well.
Clearly, everything K-Mid touches turns to gold “ or is impossible to buy afterwards.
The Canadian fashion loving didn’t stop there. The Duchess reportedly brought 40 outfit changes for her nine-day trip across Canada, and at least two outfits so far are from Canadian designers.
Case in point, while Middleton was seen boarding the plane wearing the blazer ensemble, there was apparently an in-flight outfit change into a much more form-fitting navy lace dress by Montreal-born, London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu.
The Erdem collection was shown at the end of May, which allowed the team just enough time to produce the dress especially for Middleton. Erdem’s name was even thrown into the mix back when we were trying to guess just who on earth would design the wedding dress of the century.
Middleton’s fashion choices gain worldwide attention no matter where she goes “ whether it’s a simple skirt and blazer pairing, or a drop dead gorgeous gown. Smythe and Erdem are already popular labels, but they’re bound to increase in sales now that the Duchess is a fan.
We can’t wait to see what K-Mid whips out for her Calgary Stampede appearance, canoe trip way up north, or the street hockey game she and William will be playing in. Whatever she wears, we’re sure they’ll be sold out in stores across the world in no time.
