Beauty Review: Revlon Crazy Shine Nail Buffer

Out of the many innovative nail products/trends launched within the past year (Shellac Polish, nail decals and the half-moon manicure) perhaps the most exciting launch is a bit under the radar. Revlon’s Crazy Shine Nail Buffer ($6, available at drugstores) at first glance simply looks like your regular ol’ (if slightly more shapely) emery board, but in fact gives your nails a mini-manicure in seconds!

What It Is: The Revlon Crazy Shine is a tear-drop shaped, sponge-like nail buffer with a smooth white side and rough green side. The product promises to deliver super shiny nails in just seconds, and which last for up to three days. The nail buffer virtually eliminates the need for polish, allowing you to toss the buffer into your bag for touch-ups on the go!

How It Works: Literally fool-proof, the Revlon Crazy Shine nail buffer is extremely easy to use. To begin, ensure your nailbeds are dry (free of moisturizer, cuticle oil, etc¦) and simply buff your nails using the green side of the sponge in circular, horizontal or vertical movements. This step smoothes and evens out the nailbed, allowing the shine to adhere, much like sanding a piece of furniture prior to painting. Next, flip the buffer to reveal the white side and simple rub over each nail to reveal a shiny-like topcoat. You can also use the white side of the buffer on painted nails to produce a shiny effect as well.

In using this product, I decided to shape my nails and push back my cuticles prior to using the buffer to yield a more manicured look. The buffer was very comfortable in my hands, and the whole process took only a few minutes (something to do while watching my favourite reality TV show), and I was very pleased with the results.

The Verdict: The shiny topcoat lasted the approximate three days for myself, however would potentially wear off sooner if you perform a lot of day-to-day activities using your hands. For someone who loves a manicured hand, but who always chips the polish within the hour, the use of the buffer yielded a natural, yet polished effect that was chip-free! As stated above, this product is seriously fool-proof and might just became a staple in every handbag for when you need a little touch-up out-and-about. Oh, and courtesy of my brother, the buffer works wonderfully on male hands also!

The Hype: Okay, so while Revlon promises that the buffer will produce 400% shinier nails than bare nails, yes, the buffer did yield very shiny nails but I wouldn’t necessarily call them ˜crazy’ shiny. However, for women who don’t like a polished nail, but still want their hands to look polished I would deem Revlon’s Crazy Shine buffer a winner.
