It’s a good year to be a funny woman: with female-fronted (and written) hit shows defining the current television landscape, news that Sarah Silverman’s upcoming series will be picked up by a major network is definitely welcome.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedian’s show has been greenlit by NBC, and will be based loosely around Silverman’s life. Revolving around the trials and tribulations of coming to terms with being single after the downfall of a decade-long relationship (this is the part where we all kind of think about Jimmy Kimmel), Sarah’s show will be co-written by The Sarah Silverman Program alumni Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder – as well as produced by the likes of Ron Howard (who you may also recognize as the mastermind behind a million Hollywood blockbuster and that little beloved TV series, Arrested Development).
Apparently, this move is also NBC’s way of making up for a lacklustre year which has also seen some major restructuring to the tune of potentially cancelling Community and moving Whitney to Wednesdays. (Just please for the love of all that is good, don’t let them touch Parks and Recreation.)
And while there’s no word on when the series will premiere, we can only hope it will be sooner rather than later. After all, if the “mainstream” are looking for jokes over pop culture references, viewers will likely find the former in droves in whatever Sarah Silverman titles her new sitcom.
