Model, singer, and internet personality Gabriella Bechtel, aka Gabbriette, is the ultimate emo cool girl. When she got engaged to The 1975 lead singer Matty Healy, we knew the wedding would be dark-romance goals.
The couple married last month at Castillo de Lago, an iconic Spanish-style Hollywood Hills estate built in the 1920s that was famously owned by Madonna in the 1990s. Guests included Charli XCX and her husband, The 1975’s George Daniel, as well as Healy’s parents, British performers Tim Healy and Denise Welch. Healy, 37, proposed to Gabbriette, 28, in July 2024 with a darkly delicious five-carat cushion-cut black diamond engagement ring set in a halo of shimmering white diamonds. The Victorian-inspired bauble is so perfectly her and was clearly the starting point for building an equally dramatic wedding day.
Healy wore a custom black Paul Smith suit, while Gabbriette wore three looks by Matières Fécales. The label is currently one of fashion’s most buzzed-about brands, thanks in part to Zendaya, who appeared on the red carpet for the New York premiere of The Odyssey wearing a feathery winged gown by the brand. Gabbriette’s wedding looks mark the first couture bridal designs by the label and the creatives behind it, Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran.
In an interview with Vogue, Gabbriette shared that she chose the Canadian-born, Paris-based design duo for the creative storytelling they bring to fashion. “I’ve always loved designers like Matières Fécales that tell stories through fabric. Their last show was just a full story, and I just felt like they were a perfect match.”
The carousels of cinematic wedding photos the bride dropped last week capture every divine detail of her looks; the vibe is boudoir meets Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights. Gabbriette’s ceremony dress, dubbed “Gabriella” by her design team, is the star of her wedding wardrobe and was said to be Dracula-inspired. The silk taffeta gown features a low square neckline, gathered ruching on the bodice, an inverted Basque drop waistline, a full train with bustle, and elbow-length sleeves trimmed in frothy tulle. The intricate laced corset back is a particularly exquisite detail. The gown also brings to mind the iconic, gothic-inspired wedding dress Mia Goth wore in Benicio del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Gabbriette topped the look with a miles-long tulle veil by British milliner Stephen Jones. The accessory has a star moment of its own in her wedding photos, including a set of images in which she wears only the veil and her curved-heel, bow-trimmed white wedding Louboutins created in collaboration with Matières Fécales.
The couple’s gothic, sexy, high-concept wedding images are a whole mood, heavy on yearning, passion, and dark romance. They beautifully capture Gabbriette’s dramatic Victorian vibe, which is trendsetting in itself, but even more impactful because of the unconventional, artful nature of the photos.
