Reports that Dua Lipa and Callum Turner are to wed in a stylish three-day Italian wedding event in early June appear to be true with the couple officially became Mr. and Mrs. on May 31st with a civil ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London.
This choice of venue in itself is iconic for the pop star and actor who have been dating for two years and became engaged last June. The London location is the very same place a few other music legends have said ‘I do’ including Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman (1969), and Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit (1997).
Lipa was a glowing and elegant bride in a custom white skirt suit designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli. The suit jacket featured an hourglass shape which paired perfectly with a sculptural hi-low hemline skirt for a look that was classic Old Hollywood glamour. She accessorized with white gloves, pointy white Louboutin stiletto heels, a wide brimmed white hat by British milliner Stephen Jones, diamond earrings, and a Bvlgari gold and diamond serpent necklace (Lipa is a global ambassador for the brand). She opted for hair down with her long brunette styled into soft waves, and carried a simple bouquet of pale-yellow daffodils.
What Lipa wore was most definitely a nod to rock and roll royalty and a similar intimate wedding day that happened 55 years ago. She was undoubtably channeling Bianca Jagger’s legendary look for her 1971 marriage to Mick Jagger in Saint-Tropez, France. Jagger rocked a Yves Saint Lauren skirt suit featuring the designer’s trademark Le Smoking single button jacket, worn sans blouse, paired with a bias-cut column skirt and an oversize veiled sunhat. She chose strappy block-heeled peep toe sandals which was a sensible choice as she was four months pregnant with daughter Jade.
At the time, Jagger was deemed ultimate anti-bride for her unconventional wedding style which remains one of the most famous bridal looks ever. No other celebrity bride had ever worn a look so fashion-forward, non-traditional and chic. Emulating this unforgettable look was an on-brand nod to nostalgia by Lipa. Her chunky gold diamond engagement ring is already one of the year’s biggest jewellery trends; now you can expect the bridal suit to be huge too.
As for the dashing groom (who’s tipped to be a top Bond contender), Turner’s colour-drenched ceremony look will also be setting trends. He solidified that the double-breasted suit is the menswear silhouette of the moment wearing a bespoke navy design from Italian label Ferragamo. Turner paired his suit with a shirt and tie in almost-matching shades of navy, and black lace-up Derbies.
We’re sat for the next round of style greatness from these newlyweds. The buzz is Lipa will be wearing custom Versace for her upcoming Italian wedding weekend so you know the looks will be fire.
