Shots fired?
Look. Kendall Jenner is hardly a wallflower. Girlfriend says what she's thinking, has her Instagrams touched up professionally (allegedly), and wore that dress to the MMVAs — and do you know what? Good on you/you do you, girl.
But looks like in addition to honing her own path, the Karadashian clan member actually had some choice words about the family that arguably helped launch her career to begin with.
"I was like, 'You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously,'" she told Love. "People think this just came to me, but it didn't. What I have has almost worked against me. I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn't take me seriously as a model because of the TV show. I went on castings and some people weren't feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn't recognize me. I was like, 'Thank you. Please don't recognize me.'"
Okay, and that's all well and good, but I think we can all agree here that without her family, Kendall probably wouldn't have access to the labels she's been modelling for. I mean, how many millions of other women aspire to modelhood, and out of those millions, how many actually ascend to Kendall's position? While it may suck to be recognized, that audition/go-see/whatever happened arguably because somebody in a position of power said, "Kendall Jenner wants to audition." Or else she'd be starting from the bottom ala Drake in that song I love.
However, big sister Kim (ever heard of her?) agrees:
"She had to work extra hard to gain this respect and to fight for people to see she's serious," Kardashian explained. "Marc Jacobs gave her a real shot and treated her like any other model. He believed in her and opened the door for her. Then Riccardo and Karl gave her a chance, and she has proven that she is the real deal. Hard work paid off, and that makes me so proud."
And sure! Of course Jenner wouldn't be doing anything at all without having worked hard at this point — as influential as the Kardashians and/or Kanye West may be, designers aren't going to stick just anybody in their shows. Especially after Jenner told Love that she explicitly told Kim not to attend any of her other shows.
"Kim was invited to one of the shows I was in," Jenner said. "She called me before and was like, 'Hey, I was invited to the show, I just wanted to let you know. Do you want me to come?' and I was like, 'No.'"
What do you guys think?
