Prince William has finally popped the question to his long-time girlfriend, Kate Middleton. The two went on a press junket yesterday to reveal the news to British press and show off Kate’s gorgeous ring.
But, her engagement ring isn’t one we haven’t seen before. Prince William proposed with his mother’s diamond sapphire ring.
It was my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together,” said William.
But, now that Kate will be adding Princess to the beginning of her name, we’ve got a few tips for her. Her life is about to change dramatically and she’s going to be in the public eye more than ever.
First and foremost, Kate can never again wear the same outfit twice. The pros of this are that she’ll have the best wardrobe in London. The con, sometimes a girl gets attached to outfits and can’t help but want to wear it over and over again. Sorry Kate, but any reused outfits will not go unnoticed.
Once she and Prince William head down the aisle, no one will ever refer to her as Kate Middleton again. From now on, she’ll be known as Her Royal Highness Catherine Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. Royalty doesn’t do shortened names so we better get used to the formalities.
Going back to the aforementioned diamond sapphire ring, Catherine will always hear about being the heiress to Princess Diana’s beloved engagement ring. While it is a title to feel honored about, I’m sure she’s already getting tired of the comparisons. Plus, with a rock that size, she better believe that people are going to be trying to get a shot of it. You know what that means… manicure!
As the first princess of her generation in Britain, all eyes are going to be on Kate. She’s always going to have to make sure she never wears anything that can be deemed “inappropriate,” swears while in public, or parties the night away. Nope, it’s going to be visits to orphanages, hospitals and standing by her man.
But, being a princess comes with many perks (aside from the ever-growing wardrobe that is) – the crowns and jewels! Okay, so I might be assuming that every single person who marries a prince will have the same experience as Julia Stiles in The Prince and Me, but I’m sure that years of and years of collected jewels will be passed on to Kate, perhaps even a few from Queen Elizabeth.
Plus, she gets to live in a castle. Need I say more?
She won’t be living in a castle for rather a whiile: as long as Prince William is on duty with the RAF, they’ll remain in Wales; then there’s the possibility that they will move back to London to a palace – but this is by no means a dead cert; they may buy a house somewhere (or be given one).
I certainly agree that the press should stay away from them as long as they have requested that it be the case. They’ll respond with “photo ops” and so on far more genially if they’re given privacy when it’s requested.
Having been involved in a Royal visit in 1986 of Prince Charles and Princess Diana to Canada.
I will tell you that Diana wore outfits more than once – even sometimes 3 and 4 times.
Hopefully being a Princess of the 21st Century, Kate will embrace recycling especially her wardrobe and we will see her in outfits more than once….
HUGE Kudos to the media who are giving Kate and William the privacy they have requested. HUGE Kicks to those media still hounding them – GET REAL……….
