5 Reasons the CNE is Still The Best Date Spot in Toronto

The opening of the CNE is the official unofficial mark of the end of summer. Like most Torontonians I know, The Ex has been a must-visit every summer for as long as I can remember (even before I officially became a Torontonian). As I got older though, I realized that this is one of the best places to go on a date, whether it’s your first or your hundredth. Let me explain.

It’s something fun to do that isn’t going to the movies

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dinner-and-a-movie date as much as the next chick and I could Netflix and chill for the rest of my life, but sometimes, especially as summer draws to a close, it’s nice to get out and do something. If you can’t get away for the weekend or are still wrapping up your summer wedding season, then choose a night and take your beau out for this once-a-year event.

It’ll bring out your competitive side

There’s nothing quite like a little whack-a-mole to bring out some friendly competition in your relationship. If it’s a new guy in your life, you’ll get to see how he does under pressure and if he’s the kind of guy that’ll stop at nothing to win you the toy you’ll end up donating in a week.

You don’t have to argue about what to eat

As our editor-in-chief recently wrote, trying to decide what to eat for dinner can be a lengthly process, but when you have hundreds of different options at your fingertips (plus a few weird concoctions), no one has to feel like they’re sacrificing their choice.

You get to have some good old-fashioned fun

Literally what is more fun than going on rides? Nothing. Whether you’re into the teacups (me) or the ferris wheel, there’s always something for everyone and a lot of the slower rides (like the gondola) allow you to snuggle up and get super close, even giving you time to sneak in a smooch.

You can check out some live shows

From acrobatic performances to live music to cooking demonstrations, there’s tons to see that you might not normally consider on your date night. Who knows? You might even get inspired do some acrobatics of your own later on.
