V Magazine Gets Curvy

This month, V Magazine is doing things a little differently for a fashion magazine. Dubbed, ˜The Size Issue,’ V Magazine has turned their next issue into a showcase for plus-sized models.

One of the most fascinating aspects of V Magazine’s ˜The Size Issue’ is the ˜Curves Ahead’ editorial which features five plus-sized models styled by Nicola Formichetti and photographed by Sé¸lve Sondsbé¸. The ˜Curves Ahead’ editorial features the five stunning models in topless shoots, skin tight leotards and tons of stylish denim.

I absolutely love that V Magazine has taken this plunge to feature plus-sized models, which is not something that has been seen before in a high-fashion glossy. It is an awesome way to show young girls that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and gives plus-sized models a bigger outlet to explore their careers.

I hope other high fashion glossies take a few pointers from V Magazine. We might just see more and more beautiful plus-sized ladies gracing covers on our newsstands. Let’s hope this leads to the use of plus-sized models in high-fashion shoots on a regular basis.

The models features in V Magazine’s ˜Curves Ahead’ editorial are Candice Huffine, Marquita Pring, Michelle Olson, Tara Lynn and Kasia P. V Magazine’s ˜Size Issue’ will hit newsstands on January 14th, 2010.

I’ve always been a fan of fuller-figured models. There’s a great site with many images of plus-size models here:

    They’re all gorgeous.
The site’s forum also has thought-provoking discussions about body image and the media.
