Forget America’s Next Top Model and smiling with your eyes: Tyra Banks has revealed that she’s been taking a business program at Harvard University.
Having opened up about her secret life of academia (oh the shame) in an interview with CBS News, the former Cover Girl-turned-talk show host admitted she’d been studying in the elite program for a year, and addressed the reception regarding her bold admission: “I get mixed reactions. There are little facial expressions, the chin goes back, like ‘Really?’ In order for my company to grow and be the best, and to reach these women, and to serve them, I needed the best. So I went to the best.” (Well, she certainly put those DeVry advertisements in their place.)
If you’re not familiar with the Tyra saga, the supermodel originally turned down post-secondary education after being discovered in Paris, and has cited the day she made her choice as “one of the most difficult of [her] life”.
So will we see the fruits of her labour? Ms. Banks says yes: “I think I could’ve leaned on all of my advisors. I have accountants and lawyers, and this and investment bankers. But I don’t want to be that girl when I’m meeting with them, where I’m like ‘Uh-huh, great’. I now can say what’s the present value on that, what’s the discounted cash flows of that, and that’s because of Harvard.”
As if the school needed another A-list endorsement. (Wasn’t Legally Blonde enough?)
