After a pretty successful first season, The X Factor is doing a complete re-haul of the show by firing judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, as well as host Steve Jones.
Even though the show did fairly well in ratings, it still wasn’t enough for Simon Cowell, the show’s judge and creator, to compete with his former bosses and claim to fame, American Idol. He came to the conclusion that to snag the viewers, he had to look for more star power in the judges.
“I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations, Paula said in a statement announcing her departure from the show. She added that she would remain friends with Simon and was happy to have had the opportunity.
Steve took to his Twitter page to announce that he wouldn’t be returning to the show. I wont be hosting next seasons XFactor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show, he wrote.
As for Nicole, the singer says she is ready to re-focus her attention on her music, which she had no time for while on The X Factor.
“She wants to focus on her music career, a source said. “She didn’t have any time really to work on her music. She was doing X Factor six days a week.”
Rumours have already started to circulate that Simon might be looking to get Mariah Carey on board as a judge, as well as his ex-colleague, Ryan Seacrest as host. I’m not sure Ryan would sign-on to do another singing competition when he has had so much success with American Idol. But if the price is right, Simon could get just about anyone on board.
Who would you like to see as a judge on the next season of The X Factor?
