Nicki Minaj has landed her first high fashion campaign with Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli. Featured in the spring 2015 ads, Minaj is seen in a series of colourful and triabl-inspired ads, shot by Francesco Carrozzini.
High fashion is the perfect next step for Minaj. This year, the rapper toned down her signature eccentric style that included a range of colourful wigs paired with loud and often head-turning, Lady Gaga-esque outfits. Instead, she's been opting for figure-hugging dresses, black hair and a more natural beauty look, while still showing off her personality through her style choices.
“I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman," the designer said in a statement. "In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body, who is not afraid to show her curves but rather make them her strength."
Minaj's curves are certainly at centre stage in this campaign, while she dons a sleek, black bob and nude makeup. She once told Cosmopolitan that she looked to Marilyn Monroe for style inspiration during her make under, which certainly shows in this campaign.
