The fashion, the sub-plots, the fashion . . . the fashion. In the years since its premiere in the late-2000s, Gossip Girl has become the go-to for high society style (unless we’re talking Serena or Little J and their wide wardrobes of terrible choices). But while we all care about headbands, bows and designer footwear, something else might eventually take precedence: the departure of Blair Waldorf (aka Leighton Meester) once her show contract expires in 2012.
In a recent interview, the star disclosed that the producers were kind enough to re-arrange schedules for her to film the upcoming Country Strong (feelings = mixed), and that in doing such, “[it] allows you to be ready for when the show’s over”. (Well thank goodness she’s avoided the path of Saved By the Bell’s Dustin Diamond. No tell-all novels here.)
And while she didn’t confirm that her departure would end the series entirely, she skimmed over the details, saying “I don’t know . . . but I think there’s that old saying about wanting to go out on top”. (But wouldn’t that have been after season two?)
It’s no secret that the Gossip Girl storyline is getting ravaged along with Serena’s reputation (zing!), but to consider its continuation following her exit? Let’s hope we avoid the curse of Gossip Girl 2: You Know You’ll Miss Me. (xoxo.)
