After years of asking LeAnn Rimes the question “what were you thinking?” we finally have an answer. In the Backstory: LeAnn Rimes special airing on Sunday on the Great American Country channel, LeAnn finally opens up about her very public affair with Eddie Cibrian.
“I know I didn’t do it the right way,” she said. “I didn’t have the tools to know how to do it the right way, how to let go the right way. I’d never been taught that.”
“I have the strength [now] but I didn’t at the time,” LeAnn continued. “So, it got really messy, but I have learned a lot from that. And I’m not glad it happened, but I know why it did.”
But, of course, LeAnn had to also touch upon the double standards that surround cheating women versus cheating men. “[Country music] has such a double standard. You know, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash and all these guys. God knows what they did back in the day? And if a woman did it, you never were accepted or forgiven. But if it was a guy, it was just their life… It’s quite interesting to have to navigate those waters as a woman in this business.”
I don’t know about you guys, but I definitely thought Eddie was as much to blame for their highly publicized affair as LeAnn was. (But I might also still hold a grudge against him for his 3Deep days. A boy band singer, he is not.)
LeAnn Rimes was married to her then husband, Dean Sheremet when she met Eddie Cibrian on the set of Northern Lights where the two began having an affair (Eddie was also married at the time). But it seems they are all starting to patch things up because earlier this week, LeAnn, Eddie and Eddie’s ex, Brandi Glanville, all got together at Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate Eddie and Brandi’s son’s bithday.
Eddie Cibrian and LeAnn Rimes have been engaged since last year but have not yet announced wedding plans.
