Kimora Lee Simmons is back with a new womenswear line, and it's unlike anything we've seen from the former model, Baby Phat designer and reality TV star.
"It's all part of the evolution," Simmons said at a press preview to debut her line, according to Fashionista. "People know me, I'm not new. I'm an old soul around here, but this is what I'm feeling now and I hope that they trust my judgement as a customer and a woman."
In the early to mid 2000s, Simmons was a force. She was married to the co-founder of Def Jam Russell Simmons, helped grow Baby Phat as the must-have urban womenswear, and released several fragrances. She even released a self-help book to remind women how to stay fabulous. Then, in 2011 she was named the president and creative director of JustFab.com. Now, Simmons is looking at a much higher price point than her previous endeavors.
It was about a year-and-a-half ago that Simmons decided to launch her own collection. She wanted something that would fit in with her own lifestyle — versatile enough to go from day to night, from a business meeting to a cocktail party. However, Simmons admits with a price range of $600 to $3500, her new collection is not for everyone.
"This is definitely catered to a woman who has a little spending power," she said. "It's very classic and it's my take on what would be basic. Not exactly basic, but updated and upgraded basic."
The line is full of luxurious fabrics like cashmere, double-layered silks and leather. The silhouettes are clean and sexy, with tiny flashes of skin.
Simmons has already released a holiday capsule collection, which is available at KLS.com. The clothing line will be available online and at a new boutique opening in Beverly Hills this spring.
