There’s nothing quite like the red carpet for bringing out the best (and worst) in fashion. Luckily, last night’s Golden Globes brought out a whole lot of the best in full force. As always, there were the de rigeur dresses that made us say Aw, doesn’t she look pretty? But there were also the savoir faire ones that stood out one way or another in a sea of sequins, rosy and nude numbers. Here are our top five favourite standouts:
5. Sofia Vergara
Did anyone really expect anything less than pure sex-on-a-dress from everyone’s favourite curves? Bombshell doesn’t begin to do Vergara justice. Aside from the obvious clingy appeal, the corset and ribbon detailing on the back makes the dress.
4. Olivia Wilde
This one was a wild card. Although she’s progressed leaps and bounds in her steady role on House, the grace and glamour of this jaw-dropper was totally unexpected from the still-emerging actress. A stunning mix of whimsy and allure, not to mention her fabulous Louboutins.
3. Anne Hathaway
In a moment of verbal sewage, Ryan Seacrest mentioned while interviewing Hathaway that her dress reminded him of mini CDs. Not my first thought, but even if it were true Hathaway worked it. The sleeves and bare back made all the difference and the mini CDs really stood out amid all the sparkling dresses.
2. Mila Kunis
Emerald green popped up a few times throughout the night on notable ladies like Elisabeth Moss and Catherine Zeta Jones, but Mila Kunis wore it best. The colour is the focus of the dress, but the unexpected ruching and details like the cross strap on the back add just the right amount of glamour.
1. Emma Stone
Simply can’t find enough to say about how wonderful Emma Stone looked. It takes a truly beautiful woman to pull off such a classy, understated look. The colour does wonders for her skin tone and works perfectly with her new blonde hair. I can’t decide who’s more genius: Calvin Klein for making the dress, or Emma for making it work so hard.
