Editor’s Picks: Brow Essentials

There was once a time in my life where I had over-plucked ultra-thin eyebrows. We all had them, it was called the 90s. But, luckily one day my aunt (who is a beauty junkie) took me aside and said, “What the F have you done to your eyebrows?” She brought me to a professional "brow sculpture" that taught me that a natural-looking brow is best. Yes, you’ll always need to pluck those strays, but there is no need to completely alter your shape. So, ever since I’ve done exactly that, small touch-ups. But, as I get older I notice my brows aren’t as dense as they used to be. I’ve started using products to fill them in to make them look more full and bold. Here are some of my favourite brow products and tools that I use:

*NEW* NARS Brow Gel, $25 at NARS boutiques and online at narscosmetics.ca

NARS founder, Francois Nars, says, “The brow gives shape and character to the face – it can create a totally different expression.” Thus, don’t overlook them! Their new brow gel allows you to add fullness to your brows while taming and setting them. They also come in four shades (typically most brands only carry two – blonde and brunette).

*MUST HAVE* Smashbox Brow-Tech to Go, $27 at Shoppers Drug Mart

This product is almost always sold out (because it is so darn popular), so when I find it in store I buy at least five of them. This is a permanent in my makeup bag. This pencil is very easy to use, waterproof and goes on smooth. Plus the brush on the other end helps you set the colour.

*CLASSIC* Benefit Brow Zings, $30 at Shoppers Drug Mart and online at benefitcosmetics.com

Brow Zings was the first eyebrow makeup I ever used! That is why I’ve classified it as a classic. The duo has a pigmented wax and setting powder. It is a great alternative to a pencil. The product looks very natural and I love that it comes with a mirror and mini tweezer for touch-ups on the go.
