How to Do Walt Disney World in Your 20s: Where Dreams (Really) Come True

This past October was my second time visiting a Disney resort, and my second time visiting one in my twenties. I was one of those kids whose parents would rather visit the grandparents in the summers than head to Florida (Hey, I can’t complain. My grandparents live in Italy!). So, I decided to live out my childhood dream last year when I visited Disneyland. That trip was such an incredible experience (read about it here) that I had to do it again this year, and this time I was going big¦ I was going to Disney WORLD! Here are a few ways you can enjoy Walt Disney World Resort as a childless adult:

FastPass+ and MagicBand are Your Best Friends

I am a ride junkie. I went on the Tower of Terror four times in a row. I can’t tell you how convenient it is to reserve your ride times ahead so you can avoid hours in lines (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom is brand new and can be quite the wait). Disney resorts have always had FASTPASS, but with FastPass+ you can make all your reservations from home and make changes on the go. First, you’ll need a MagicBand. A MagicBand is your room key, credit card and FastPass+ during your holiday. You can load it up with reservations and money so you can leave your purse and travel lighter. With just a quick swipe the MagicBand gives you access or pays for merchandise. MagicBands are available to Walt Disney World annual passholders and guests staying at Disney Resort hotels. You can purchase a MagicBand at DisneyStore.com.

You Can Drink at Epcot

This is very important to know because not all parks allow you to purchase alcohol. You can literally drink around the world. From a glass of Prosecco in Italy to a frozen margarita in Mexico, this is where you want to spend your evenings at Disney World. I say evening because it can get a little toasty in Orlando during the day and overheating while you’re eating at eleven different pavilions just feels crappy. So, schedule a late afternoon or evening to enjoy Epcot.

Take Selfies with the Characters

It is unlikely you’re going to frame your photo with Mickey in your living room (if you are, good for you!), but meeting characters is a big part of going to Disney World. Because we’re not kids anymore, on our trip instead of paying for professional shots we just took selfies with all the characters. Your Instagram likes will go through the roof!

Choose a Resort for the Adults

When it comes to choosing where you are going to stay, the resorts we noticed that were more adult-friendly with nice bars, pools and restaurants were the Contemporary Resort, Beach Club Resort and  Yacht Club Resort all in Disney. Remember, it is much easier to get from park to park if you are staying within Disney than commuting in from an outside hotel. Trust us, it is worth every penny.

It is a Foodie’s Paradise

There are some amazing dining experiences at Walt Disney World. My favourite was at California Grill at the Disney Contemporary Resort. We had a white chocolate pasta (yes, you read that right) that rocked my world. And their wine selection is unbelievable. Plus, the restaurant has a perfect view of the Magic Kingdom Fireworks Spectacular. It is an experience you can’t miss.

My Favourite Part of the Trip?

It is hard to pinpoint one moment, but I was the most excited on the safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I’d never seen animals in that type of natural setting. There are invisible fences, so it looks like there is nothing between you and, say, a giant Lion. Ah-mazing! It is a must-do on your Disney vacation.
