We all know that the spring is about freshness, growth, and starting anew, which is why so many of us make it the time of year that we de-clutter, downsize, and tidy up our lives. And while it might seem great to walk into a clean and organized space every day¦what about our head space? And our heart space?
Here are five ways you can mentally and emotionally de-clutter yourself in preparation for the rest of the year ahead.
Be kind to yourself
We often spend so much time being concerned about how we make other people feel that we don’t take the time to stop and listen to how we treat ourselves. Start taking a few minutes out of every day to mentally compliment yourself on something you like about you. Whether it be your hair, your compassion, or your ability to make your partner laugh, always take the time to remind yourself of why others value you. Be as kind to you as you want other to be to you.
Take care of your body
Eat well, sleep enough, keep your stress levels down, and move your body as often as you can. Taking good care of your body will not only keep you in peak physical condition but it can also help fend off depression. Keeping your mental and emotional wellness in check should always be just as important as keeping the physical, and they often go hand-in-hand.
Give your time
Volunteer opportunities tend to spike in the warmer weather months with a multitude of events going on in most major cities. Check out charity runs or other initiatives happening near you to see how you might be able to help out. Nothing can help improve the balance in your soul by offering help to someone else in need.
Make time for you
We are often so overwhelmed with all that needs to get done that we start putting aside the things that we want to get done. In the hecticness that you call life, always make sure to set aside a specific amount of time for your own hobbies and projects. Your happiness is important too, so never let go of the things that make you happy.
Learn to ask for help
There is no shame in not being able to carry the weight of the world on just your shoulders. Many of us, however, are often too ashamed to ask for a helping hand. If you are coming out of the winter months unable to shake the grey haze in your mind, then know that there are people out there “ your friends, family, doctors, and more “ who are available to help. All you have to do is ask.
