We all have things about ourselves that we know could use a little tweaking — Less self-deprecating here, more positivity there. But in the rush of our everyday life, sometimes we forget about those things. We focus so much on making everything around us better that we forget to make us better.
Here are our 12 simple changes you can make in your everyday life to be a better you…
Eat breakfast
It might seem obvious, but the number of people who don’t do this one easy self-improvement trick is remarkable. They don’t call it the most important meal of the day for nothing, you know.
Read every day
It doesn’t matter what you’re reading, whether it be a book, a newspaper, or a trashy magazine, just read. Reading brings knowledge and knowledge enlightens.
Learn something
Wake up each morning with the goal that you will learn something new that day. Seek out new forms of information each and every day. It will pay off in the future.
Challenge yourself
Never let your day-to-day life feel easy. Learn a new word in a new language; run an extra 1K; experiment with a new recipe. Challenge yourself everyday.
Face fear
This may not be something you go up against each day but on the days when you do have that deep-in-your-gut fear feeling, embrace it and face it, no matter how much you want to run.
Exercise
The best you starts with the most healthy you. Find ways to motivate yourself to exercise each and every day. Even just for 20-30 minutes. Every little bit counts.
Keep a to-do list
And use it, every day. Write down small goals and big ones, and every day look at it to remind yourself of what you need and want to accomplish in this life. Check them off as you go.
Avoid negative people
It really is for the best. No one likes a Debbie Downer and these people are only going to pull you down with them. Avoid them. You’ll be better for it.
Disconnect
Give yourself an hour or two every day when you completely disconnect from the world. Turn off your phone, shut down your laptop, and walk out into the world and explore.
Turn off the tv
It’s only making you fat, anyway.
Meditate
Not only will it help calm and focus you, but meditation is also fantastic for bringing more self-awareness into your every day life. Learn it and love it.
Let go
Every time an old emotion or feeling comes up about a situation that had negatively effected you in some way, stop, breathe, and let it go.
