It goes without saying that everything goes with a pair of denim shorts. But what about Spring 2011 more obscure short trends? Do feel like high waisted shorts won’t look good on you, or that Bermuda shorts are just too long?
We’ve got you covered with tips for how to rock any runway look in the real world on a summer day.
You don’t have to be a surfer to wear these shorts. This menswear inspired trend can work in several ways. Paired with a blazer, belt, and professional looking shoes, this is one look you can take the office as long as every other piece is polished. If you’ve gone for a really baggy pair, pick a fitted shirt or tee for a laid back look. Pair with a hat, shades, simple accessories and flats to exude a confident, casual feeling.

This cute trend can make you legs look like they go on for days and your waist look tiny (double bonus!). For starts pick a shirt you can tuck into your shorts or the whole effect is wasted. These shorts can really create an ultra-feminine or retro look. Try picking contemporary blouses and matching them with vintage looking accessories and a great belt to highlight your waist even more. Pair with delicate heels to make the line of your leg even longer.

These puppies were seen on runways at Christian Dior and D&G. If you are brave enough to try this look you need to think about a shirt that will balance out your bottom half. You don’t need shoulder pads but a skinny tank top or tee may make you look a bit hippy. However these hot pants can work wonders on those with boyish, skinny figures who don’t mind the extra curve. Consider trying a feminine, retro blouse with puffed sleeves. Take this look into colder weather at the end of summer by wearing tights and booties.

You can blame Lady Gaga and Laurie Ann Gibson for making this trend a big hit. For those daring enough (read: confident enough their skinny thighs) to try this look, I’d recommend going with a tight fitting top or body suit so that you don’t have to try to tuck anything thing. Also wearing anything too loose or baggy on top may cause people to wonder if you’re even wearing pants. Keep this one far away from the office and good luck to you!
