Tell us something we don't know, People Magazine. Lupita Nyong'o, our favourite person in the world/person we hope will one day be our best friend, has just been named People's Most Beautiful Person for 2014, inspiring choirs of angels singing and also everybody with eyes and a brain to say, "DUH."
"It was exciting and just a major, major compliment," Nyong'o said. "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on (it) and feel a little scene."
This just in: Lupita Nyong'o is a goddamn gift to the world.
The 31-year-old actress just came off a Best Supporting Actress win for her heartbreaking turn in 12 Years a Slave, and has been vocal on what everyone expects in terms of beauty — as well as what she grew up thinking beauty was.
"Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair," she told People about what she grew up thinking "beautiful" meant. "Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess."
Finally, after years of her mother telling her she was beautiful, Nyong'o says she started to believe it. But what's most important?
"Happiness is the most important thing," she added.
We love you, Lupita. Now, everyone else, buy the magazine and read her full interview. She's the most inspiring of all.
