Ellen DeGeneres is on the cover of Parade Magazine’s Halloween edition and the talk show host gave a candid interview about why she was turned off of American Idol and her personal struggles with being a gay woman in Hollywood.
Ellen had a short-lived stint as a judge on American Idol and no one could quite figure out why the 53-year-old left the same reality show that she talked so profusely about on her daytime talk show. It turns out it came down to egos¦ surprise, surprise.
It was disappointing to hear things about the kids, the drama going on, Ellen told Parade Magazine. Some of them are not as grateful as you would expect. All of a sudden they have fan mail, millions of people saying they’re great, and some of them just stop appreciating it.
The comedienne also opened up about what it was like to come out back in 1997.
I didn’t work, didn’t have any money. No one [in the business] would even talk to me on the phone.
I’m sure all those people who didn’t return Ellen’s phone calls sure are regretting their decision. The talk show host has built up a huge franchise for herself, and no one can deny that her wholesome comedy is infectious
