Well you only had to wait a couple of days, but still! Rejoice! It's here! A lifestyle site by a celebrity for you. For me. For all of us. And Blake Lively — the founder of new lifestyle site, Preserve — is just as nervous as we are.
"Sitting down to write this editor's letter has been the hardest thing I've done yet on my Preserve journey," she wrote. "I'm more intimidated than I should probably admit. I'm no editor, no artisan, no expert. And certainly no arbiter of what you should buy, wear, or eat."
The thing is, this attitude is what automatically sets Lively's site apart from most celebrity blogs/domiciles. In no way is Preserve pretentious or over-the-top or anything other than something you'd totally be cool with reading at lunch at work on in-between deadlines (when you should probably be working, but shhhh). She continues:
"I've been fortunate enough to travel. I've been all over the world and all over this country. There's so much life teeming out of every pocket of this nation. There are people creating magic with their bare hands. Creating things which land at that amazing intersection between art and function."
"I've found that when approached with a curious spirit, people are kind, they're generous, they answer, if asked," she added. "They'll often open up their doors and hearts and let you in. Because people with wisdom have stories to tell, and want them heard."
Lively then goes on to say — and you should read the letter for yourself because it's actually really lovely — that Preserve's goal is to give people a place to tell their stories and to share their work. It's a creative space (run by not just her, but a team) that's ultimately up to you in terms of whether you want it to be expensive or heavily curated or pretty cheap. It's not Goop, I'll tell you that much for free.
Take a look around. (And shout-out to their partnership with Covenant House. Preserve can totally consider me one of their subscribers now.)
